Retractable Screen Doors & Window Screens in San Jose and the Peninsula
South Bay homes are built around indoor-outdoor living, with big sliders, glass walls and backyards you can see from the kitchen. We install custom retractable screens from San Jose up the Peninsula to San Mateo, so you can leave that glass open on a hot afternoon and still keep bugs outside.
Screens for Glass-Heavy South Bay Homes
The South Bay's housing and weather make screens worth having, but they also raise the bar. People here bought their homes for the light and the view, and a screen shouldn't take that away.
Eichlers and walls of glass
Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Cupertino and parts of San Jose have whole neighborhoods of Eichler homes, with floor-to-ceiling glass, atriums and sliding doors on several sides of the house.
A fixed screen across that glass dulls the view all year. A retractable screen stays rolled into a slim housing until you open the door, so the glass looks the way the architect intended most of the time.
Hot afternoons, cooler evenings
Summer afternoons in the Santa Clara Valley regularly get hot, especially in San Jose and the towns farther from the bay. Evenings cool off, and that's when most people want the sliders open. A screen lets the house air out after a warm day without letting in moths and mosquitoes at dusk.
Mid-century ranches and remodels
Beyond the Eichler tracts, much of Santa Clara, Campbell, Milpitas and San Jose is mid-century ranch housing, often remodeled with larger patio doors. Wide openings are where retractable screens make the most sense, because a hinged screen door that size would be awkward to live with.
Larger homes on the Peninsula and in the foothills
In Los Gatos, Saratoga, Los Altos and Menlo Park, we see a lot of French doors to patios and pools, plus casement windows that never had screens. Each one is measured and built separately, so a house with several different openings still gets a matched set in one frame color.
Recommended Screens for South Bay Homes
Here's how we usually match screens to South Bay openings. Photos of completed work are in our gallery.
Sliding door screens
The first choice for Eichler sliders and the wide patio doors in remodeled ranch homes. Glides on ball bearings and fits oversized sliders.
Window screens
For casement, sliding and UPVC windows. Retracts completely, which matters on homes where the windows are a big part of the design.
Double door screens
For French doors to a patio or pool area. Two panels meet in the middle and retract into housings on each side.
Single door screens
For front entries, garage-to-yard doors and side doors. Works with in-swing and out-swing doors.

From Measurement to Installed Screens
- Step 01
We measure on site
On glass-heavy homes we check each slider and window individually, including how much mounting surface the frame has. The visit and quote are free.
- Step 02
Your screens are made to size
Every screen is built for its specific opening. You choose a frame color for the whole house, and pet-resistant mesh where you need it.
- Step 03
Installation and hand-off
We install the screens, adjust them until they run smoothly, and show you how each one opens and closes before we leave.
South Bay Screen Questions
Will a screen block the view through my Eichler's glass?
Only while it's pulled across. When the door is closed or you don't need the screen, the mesh rolls into a slim housing at the side of the opening, so the glass is clear the rest of the time.
Eichler sliders have very little trim. Can you still mount a screen?
In most cases, yes. Post-and-beam homes often have minimal trim around the sliders, so we check the mounting surface carefully during the in-home measurement and plan the installation around it. If an opening needs a different approach, we'll explain it before you commit.
Can you screen casement windows?
Yes. Our retractable window screens work with casement, sliding and UPVC windows, and they come with horizontal or vertical retraction depending on the window.
Do you cover the Peninsula as well as San Jose?
Yes. We serve the whole South Bay and the Peninsula, including Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City and San Mateo. Call 415-295-5002 or request a quote online to set up a measurement.
